Hello again. It's Tuesday night and my evening class starts in about twenty minutes, but I wanted to get something posted before I left for class. The class I am teaching tonight is called "Advanced Web Technologies" and is a survey course about some of the more advanced features of the Web. Tonight we are going to be talking about how to create a frameset, and use that to provide persistent navigation throughout a site (that means the navigation will be present, wherever you go in the site). Once we talk about framesets we will be talking about how to create forms in HTML. Forms are a multi-day discussion, and tonight we are talking about how to place checkboxes and radio buttons and all those other things on a page. Next week we will be talking about CGI processing with PERL, which will allow us to actually do something with the results of the survey. A few weeks after that we see how to create a form in a PDF file (using Adobe Acrobat), and near the end of the term we will learn how to validate a form with JavaScript before it ever gets sent to the PERL site. All of this is done by coding in HTML, none of those page editors like DreamWeaver or FrontPage for our students - they learn how to do it the hard way (then they REALLY appreciate the tools that make forms for you!)
That's about it for now - on my way to class soon. See you all on Monday night!
